Fox Searchlab Comedy Short 'King of the Moon' an Official Selection of the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival
by Anonymous

Hollywood, CA September 1, 2004 -- “King of the Moon” has landed as a contender at the upcoming 2004 Los Angeles International Short Film Festival taking place September 7-14, 2004. The 20-minute film can be seen as part of the ‘A Trip to the Moon’ Program Sunday September 12 at 7:45 pm. The film Screens at the Arclight Cinemas, Theater 12, 6360 W. Sunset Blvd.

Co-Writers Scott Alan Smith and Adam Paul star in the tongue-in-cheek spoof about Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong in the lunar module wrestling to be the first to walk on the Moon. Originally a hit play that performed to sold out houses at the HBO Workspace, The Groundlings and New York’s Present Company, the film version screened to high praise this spring as an Official Selection of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

Director Clements, a recent graduate of the American Film Institute, last helmed the award-winning short, ‘Flirting with Death,’ which appeared on the Showtime network. “’King of the Moon’ is so different from most of the short films you see out there,” said Clements. “It’s an historical comedy, a buddy-picture a lunar fantasy and a love letter to a simpler time.”

Adam Paul, who plays the role of the seething, buttoned-down and by-the-book Buzz Aldrin, was seen last season as Mort Hudson on CBS’s ‘The District’, and has made appearances on ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and ‘Enterprise.’ In addition, Adam’s voice- over talents can be heard in Dreamworks’ ‘Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron’ and Nickelodeon’s ‘Invader Zim.’ Currently, Adam is featured breaking cement slabs with his head, lifting boulders and pulling a rabbit out of a hat in a series of Kia commercials.

Scott Smith (as happy-go-lucky Neil Armstrong) has most recently been seen on ‘NYPD Blue,’ Showtime’s ‘D.C. 9/11’ and as hapless District Attorney Jerry Bingham on ABC’s ‘Philly.’

Clements, Paul and Smith will be available for interviews during the run of the festival.

LA Shorts Fest is dedicated to the celebration and cultivation of the short film. Through a variety of yearlong activities, LA Shorts Fest educates, entertains and honors those who have mastered the craft. Entering its eighth year, LA Shorts Fest is the largest short film festival in the world and one of the few recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. Last year' s festival garnered over 1,100 film entries and drew more than 10,000 moviegoers, filmmakers and entertainment executives.

LA Shorts Fest attracts the highest caliber of short films made each year. Since its' inception, nineteen festival participants have gone on to earn Academy Award nominations and five have won the Oscar for their films.
